Abatement
You are in the
2006 scheme
Taking your pension and working
Returning to work
If you take your pension then return to work as a police officer, your pension payments from the 2006 scheme may be reduced or stopped.
The aim of abatement is to protect the public purse i.e. you are not receiving a salary and a pension in respect of the role of a police officer.
Your pension is likely to be wholly withdrawn during the second period of your service, but you will be able to retain your lump sum and your new salary will not be affected.
