Understanding your membership

Not sure where you have benefits?

If you are not sure which of the police pension schemes you have built up benefits in, you should check your annual benefit statement. This will provide a summary of your benefits and let you know which scheme they are built up in - this could be 2015, 2006, 1987 or a combination of these schemes.

If you are still not sure, it is likely that your membership can be determined by the date you joined the scheme:

  • After 1 April 2015: You are likely to be in the 2015 scheme.
  • After 6 April 2006 but before 1 April 2012: You are likely to be in the 2006 scheme. You may also have benefits in the 2015 scheme if you remained a member after 1 April 2022.
  • After 1 April 2012 but before 1 April 2015: You are likely to be in the 2006 scheme. You may also have benefits in the 2015 scheme if you remained a member after 1 April 2015.
  • Before 6 April 2006: You are likely to be a member of the 1987 scheme*. You may also have benefits in the 2015 scheme if you remained a member after 1 April 2022.

*A small number of members selected to move their 1987 benefits to the 2006 scheme when it opened on 6 April 2006. If you were one of these members you would no longer have benefits in the 1987 scheme.
